Seen here is the Jamintel Earth Station, once part of Cable and Wireless and now no loger operational. This large dish antenna located at Prospect Pen, St. Thomas was set up in 1971 and linked to an INTELSAT satellite that provided telephone, telegraph and television connection to the country. It's 30 metres in diameter, weighs 326 tons and was designed to withstand high hurricane force winds. (source: www.discoverjamaica.com) Trackback(0)
